“NUDPAM” (நுட்பம்- meaning “The technique”) was an annual publication by the “Tamil Student Club Trondheim, Norway”. DsporA Tamil Archive received the 1998 edition of the publication as photos from Yarlini Devairakkam who has been a student at the University in Trondheim in the 1990s. There were altogether published a couple of editions.
In the late 1980s, a Tamil get-together group was formed by few Tamil students in Trondheim. Late Prof. Thurairajah, former Vice-Chancellor of Jaffna University visited Trondheim in August 1993. Based on his inspiration the get-together group was organised as “Tamil Student Club Trondheim, Norway”.
This magazine is now a historical archive that tells about the migration of Tamils from Eelam who became students in Trondheim. This archive tells about the social situation of Tamil students before and after 1989. Before 1989 foreign citizens could apply for university admission in Norway directly from their home country. And travel to Norway with a student visa to stay here in their study period.
Another interesting historical evidence tells about the computerising of Tamil script that started in end 1980´s.
These kinds of publications are kept as treasures at private homes. DsporA Tamil archive appreciates that this magazine as well as other such publications being preserved at a Norwegian archive depot. They are Norwegian-Tamil cultural heritage that can tell various stories about society at a certain time of period. When these archives are given public access, they will be inspirational materials for Tamil university students and Tamil society worldwide.
